When I grow up

*what do you want to be when you grow up?

I remember this question being asked as a child, by school teachers, friends, parents and now my own child.

"when you were little, what did you want to be? A mom? I keep going back and forth between wanting to be a baker, or a painter and a person who saves animals and brings them back to their moms and dads."

As I comb through her curly locks i smile and think to myself, how many times I would change my " profession " in my childhood, I answer....

"well, honestly, no I wasn't thinking about being a mom. I wanted to do hair when I was 8, by the time I was 12 I wanted to be an artist and before I knew it I wanted to be a photographer. You know you can combine interest and possibly become an artist for a bakery and design cakes! "

I sit in silence waiting for a response.......
Thinking she was going to ask why I'm not any of those things now, and of coarse I had an answer in my head. " life takes you down different roads and you might choose different paths, which is ok too" ...

Instead she says,
"well I'd want to be like you! Because your doing my hair now, which makes you a stylist, and you take pictures of us so that makes you a photographer, and you read to us so that makes you a library worker. When I grow up I'm going to do all the things I want to do."

If its even possible, i think I fell in love with her a little more.
